Pre Contest Training
My hope and intent with this area is to help you be an even better bodybuilder than you already are. Here you will find useful advice to prepare for a bodybuiding show. Again, I will periodically update this area. For now I will start with the basics!
Always start your competition preparaton far enough in advance. This is for a variety of reasons. If you are ahead you can always manipulate factors to nail your timing on stage, and timing is everything-so you 'peak' precisely when the judges are assesing your physique! You prepare for weeks or months for that moment! I typically advise dieting and show prep 20 weeks out. Now I know what you are saying-what-diet 20 weeks out? Well yes and no. Providing you didn't get fat in the off season, 20 weeks is a mark to start a regiment or schedule. You are dieting but not hardcore yet, and it helps you ease into diet mode so you don't go into shock so to speak! Training for a show is stressful and a lot of work on its own. Why make it tougher by being behind? Starting earlier also gives your body more nutrients because you are eating better quality foods with nutrients and riding your body of toxins. Beginning earlier helps yourbody tighten up better so you can flow into your show without the stress of not being ready in time. If you are a bit ahead of the game, your program is easy to fix, if you are behind you are screwed! To the trained eye this shows! And those stage lights hide nothing and exaggerate everything!
By starting your precontest prep too late you highly risk comng in flat, softer, and retaining water. You want to be full, shredded (not just ripped) and peaked at the exact moment necessary.
Bottom line is you push beyond the limit! Be disciplined and have willpower, so at the end of it all, no matter if you win or not, you will know you did the best you could possibly do!
